Profhilo® is used most frequently on the face and neck and decolletage, but it can also be used for “crepey” wrinkled skin in other parts of the body.
The smoother, softer skin will start to be noticeable from 5 to 8 weeks after the first injection session. The improvements in firmness and springiness will take three months to show, as the new collagen and elastin is generated within the skin.
The effects of Profhilo® can be enjoyed for approximately 4-6 months after a complete treatment course. However, individual results may vary. To maintain that youthful, hydrated glow, Dr Fitzgerald recommends scheduling follow-up treatments every 6 months.
Profhilo® treatment is a little bit stingy, but the needle used is very fine and there are only 10 injection points. Numbing cream is always available to make the procedure more comfortable.
Profhilo® is much more fluid than a dermal filler. Rather than staying where it is placed in the skin, the gel spreads thinly beneath the surface of the skin to cover the whole face. If you’re wondering whether Profhilo® will make your face look puffy, which can happen when fillers are inexpertly injected in the face – it won’t. This is because it is not creating volume in the face; it is hydrating and strengthening the skin from within.
Profhilo® isn’t the only injectable moisture treatment. Restylane Skinboosters have been around since 2004 and Juvederm Volite is a more recent addition. However, both of these require around 200 tiny injections to place the product into the skin, whereas Profhilo® only needs 10 injections. This makes it a much more tolerable procedure with very little bruising.
The main difference, though, is the way that Profhilo® has been clinically proven to encourage the skin to regenerate itself. The extra hydration provided by the hyaluronic acid kickstarts the production of collagen that gives skin support, and elastin, that provides stretch. This means skin ends up firmer, smoother, and fresher-looking.
