Lip fillers can be used to improve the volume, contour, and definition of the lips. They can be used to restore the symmetry of your smile, correct drooping mouth corners, and soften “barcode lines”. Lip enhancement with dermal fillers can have wonderful results. It is true that there are some very obvious and freakishly over-done lips out there, and this deters many people from seeking treatment because they are afraid of being given a “trout pout” There are also some very beautiful lips out there… you just haven’t spotted them because they look perfectly natural. It is absolutely possible to achieve a subtle and beautiful enhancement of the lips. This requires knowledge of anatomy, skilled hands, a good product, and a good eye. Lip fillers FAQs
your questions answered
You will see a difference immediately, but the true results are only visible about 1-2 weeks later when the product has had a chance to settle in and integrate with the tissue. Although you may be able to feel the product immediately post-treatment, there should be no persistent lumps or bumps.
You may have significant swelling immediately after the treatment, and this may persist for a couple of days. Some short-term bruising is another possible side effect, although this is an exception rather than the rule. It is therefore not advisable to undergo a lip filler treatment if you have to go straight back to work or have an event to attend the same evening.
The results of a lip enhancement treatment undertaken with dermal fillers should last 6-12 months. This exact length of time will vary from person to person, depending upon how the body breaks down the fillers.
Often called smokers’ lines or barcode lines, they are caused by ageing of the skin with loss of collagen and elastin, by the constant repetitive movements of the mouth with speech and eating, and by the loss of support in this area due to ageing changes in the underlying bony skeleton. Smokers develop them earlier than non-smokers because smoking is so toxic to the skin that the collagen and elastin break down prematurely. Deeply etched barcode lines have hitherto been difficult to treat satisfactorily but there are some new injectable hyaluronic acid filler products that Dr Fitzgerald has introduced into her portfolio which are producing super results.
Lip enhancement techniques in the hands of a skilled practitioner, such as Dr Fitzgerald, can produce subtle, natural-looking results. She will take into account your facial proportions, lip shape, and desired outcome, as well as your lip goals, to create balanced, harmonious results. As in all treatments, Dr Fitzgerald focuses on fine touches in the right places for an elegant and subtle result.
Lip fillers are considered to be a very safe treatment. Not only are the gels they use derived from a substance that occurs naturally in the body, but they have also been approved by the FDA for aesthetic treatment, for many years.
All dermal filler treatments carry a small risk. This will be discussed in detail with you during the consent procedure and you will have the opportunity to ask as many questions as you want.
