Usually, the lip sits just above the top of the teeth. However, in some people, there is a disproportionate gum tissue to teeth ratio. Generally, a smile is considered “gummy” if more than 3-4 millimeters of gum tissue is visible, but ultimately, the classification of a gummy smile often depends on individual facial proportions and aesthetic preferences.

These neurotoxins work by temporarily paralysing the upper lip elevator muscles, reducing their contraction during smiling.
